A Fantastic Twilight Wedding Reception at Alberts at Standish

What a night at Alberts at Standish, celebrating the wedding of the new Mr & Mrs Makinson! It was a pleasure to provide the evening wedding DJ entertainment for their twilight-style wedding celebration, creating the perfect atmosphere as family and friends came together to raise a glass, capture some special memories and celebrate the happy couple.

For the Makinsons, the brief was to provide my DJ services from 6pm until midnight, alongside one of our fabulous photo booths, giving guests the chance to capture some brilliant memories throughout the evening.

A twilight wedding reception has its own special atmosphere. With guests arriving for drinks, enjoying food and looking forward to the evening celebrations, it’s important to get the entertainment just right from the very beginning.

I started the evening with a relaxed warm-up music set during the first two hours, allowing everyone to enjoy the drinks reception and meal while the atmosphere gradually built.

Alongside the music, our fun photo booth gave guests another way to enjoy the evening and capture memories with friends and family. Photo booths are a fantastic addition to wedding receptions, providing entertaining photo opportunities and keepsakes that last beyond the night itself.

For the Makinsons, the photos weren’t just for guests to take away. They could also be added to a guestbook as a special keepsake for the bride and groom, creating a collection of personal memories from their wedding celebration.

The First Dance – Elton John’s ‘Your Song’

Once the food had finished and everyone was ready for the evening celebrations, it was time to bring the guests together around the dance floor.

I invited everyone to gather before announcing the new Mr & Mrs Makinson onto the dance floor for their special first dance.

Their chosen song was the timeless classic ‘Your Song’ by Elton John — a beautiful choice to begin the evening party.

Halfway through the song, I encouraged their family and friends to join them on the dance floor, turning that special moment into the start of the celebrations.

It’s a simple but effective way to get a wedding party underway. Rather than leaving the newlyweds dancing alone for the whole song, inviting guests to join halfway through helps bring everyone together and gives the evening a natural lift.

From that moment onwards, it was time to get the party started!

Wedding Party Classics, Floor Fillers and Modern Hits

With the first dance complete, we moved into a fantastic mix of wedding party favourites, classic floor fillers, up-to-date chart hits and popular party anthems.

Every wedding is different, so I always aim to create a soundtrack that suits the couple and their guests. It’s about reading the room, responding to the atmosphere and choosing the right songs to keep the energy flowing throughout the night.

Whether your guests love timeless singalongs, familiar wedding classics or more recent chart and dance-floor favourites, the aim is always the same: to bring everyone together and create a celebration they’ll remember.

At Alberts at Standish, the Makinsons’ guests were ready to enjoy themselves, and we built towards a brilliant finish to round off the evening.

A Big Finish to ‘Angels’

No wedding party would be complete without a memorable finale, and for the Makinsons, we finished the night with ‘Angels’ — a classic singalong that provided a fitting end to a fantastic evening.

It’s always special to see everyone come together for those final moments of a wedding reception, singing along and celebrating with the newlyweds before the night comes to a close.
