What a lovely evening at The River Barn in Poulton-le-Fylde as I provided the wedding DJ entertainment for Kate & Steven – Mr & Mrs Fishwick!
The River Barn is a fantastic local wedding venue for me, and it’s always a pleasure to head there for a wedding. Being based locally, I’m very familiar with the venue and how to make the most of the space for an evening wedding reception.
My wedding DJ setup looks fantastic in the hall, creating a professional focal point for the evening while keeping the focus where it belongs — on the happy couple and their guests!
Kate & Steven’s First Dance
We kicked off the evening party with Kate & Steven’s first dance, You Make Me Feel Brand New by Simply Red.
A lovely choice for the newlyweds, who took to the dance floor together before I invited their family and friends to join them part way through the song.
Once everyone was up dancing, it was time to get the party properly underway!
80s, 90s & Party Favourites
It wasn’t the biggest wedding crowd I’ve played to, but that certainly didn’t stop us from having a great night!
In fact, some of my favourite wedding receptions are smaller celebrations where I can really get to know the crowd, take requests and work the music around the people who are actually on the dance floor.
For Kate & Steven, we went for a brilliant mix of 80s favourites, 90s classics and all those big party tracks that get everyone singing and dancing.
The aim was to get everyone in the spirit of the evening, and by the time we got into the party properly, the dance floor was certainly doing its job!
That’s one of the things I love about being a wedding DJ — you don’t need hundreds of guests to create a great atmosphere. It’s about reading the room, playing the right music and getting everyone involved.
