21st June ’13 – Hired to provide my wedding disco for Mr & Mrs Kirkham at one of our regular wedding venues, Bartle Hall Hotel in Preston. Tonight we were in the Balmoral Suite which is in a separate building to the main hotel. The DJ booth is positioned on the raised area which also serves as a dance floor.
Both Mr & Mrs Kirkham are into their Indie/Rock music but said to me beforehand, ‘it’s fine to play some cheese as well to keep all the guests happy! It’s a wedding after all!’
Their first dance was to Nina Simone ‘Feeling Good’. Towards the end of the song, we invited guests to join in, I then played a few wedding classics to take us through to the buffet. During food, I dropped the volume down a little to allow guests to eat in peace(!). Then, once everyone was fed & watered, we had live music from a band (with no name!). The band which was originally booked had let them down, so some of the groom’s muso mates had put something together especially for the occasion, they played approx. 1 hour of popular covers leaning slightly towards ‘soft rock’.
We then had just under 2 hours left which I filled with all those Indie/Rock favourites such as Brightside, Sex on Fire, Bet you look good on the dance floor etc as well as a few cheesy dance floor fillers such as the Dirty Dancing mix, Journey, Queen & the likes!
All the best to Mr & Mrs Kirkham!
